Apparently, those law students taking the New York State bar exam today and tomorrow will be able to use a laptop for the essay portion of the exam - partially due to the atrocious handwriting many now have thanks to computers - but not Apple computers. As it turns out, the software is not compatible.

"WE DO NOT SUPPORT APPLE PRODUCTS IN ANY FORM INCLUDING INTEL BASED LAPTOPS RUNNING BOOTCAMP **NO EXCEPTIONS**"

From CNN, PETA wants military to stop using animals in medical training - I've never been a big fan of PETA, and as much as I tend to hate people - if you're going to test something with military applications sometimes it is better not to use a human.

Originally wrote this for the Juvenilian, a literary magazine in Newark. This is a slight revision.
Anthem: In Praise of the Self
What follows is the partial transcript of "The Free-Thinkers Manifesto" - written in 2010, banned in 2011 and by 2012, possession of the document was made punishable by death. After the advent of the Moorehouse Act in 2009, individual liberties were severely reduced, to the point where any "aberrant" or "non-patriotic" behavior became a federal offense.
This is our anthem.
We will be heard.
We are the outspoken few and the marginalized masses.
One voice, speaking with such a resounding veracity that it cannot be ignored.
Tonight we dance, for tomorrow there will be revolution.
It started innocently enough, with a "Don't worry, this is for the greater good".
But for the greater good of whom?
Conformity is praised,
Individuality is a felony.
Everything changed that day.
Who would have though that to think would be a crime?
Cogito Ergo Sum - I think, therefore I am.
With the loss of the self, we are left with nothing.
Nosce Ipsum - Know thyself.
Once the doors of perception are opened, they can never be closed.
Once the fire of innovation has been lit, it can never be extinguished.
When the apathy sets in,
No one will notice.
This is the way the world ends -
Not with a bang, but a whimper.
Rise.
Resist.

The air around here has the consistency of warm split pea soup. It's only 94 degrees but the humidity has to be somewhere around a thousand percent. Absolutely no urge to do anything in this dreadful weather - if anyone else in the same boat, check some of this shit out:
Twitter - Cool little micro-blogging service - very simple to send updates via SMS messaging. You can find me at: gebeckett
Pandora Radio - This has been around for a while - a by-product of the Music Genome Project. Excellent at learning preferences, two thumbs up. Definitely a step up from last.fm. Just search for Gregg Beckett to find me.
Starting to read "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. We shall see how it is, but I'm always skeptical about these "inspirational" works.
Did I mention that it's hot as balls?
I'll be back later, after much hydration and perhaps an intimate encounter with an air conditioner. Savor that mental image, folks.
